How to Help Your Kids Have a Safe Car Trip Home for Christmas

While you are surely counting the days until your college kids come home for the Christmas holidays, you are probably also a bit apprehensive about their drive home. You are probably well aware that they haven't gotten enough sleep due to finals or other exams and assignments. Also, you know that they may be so anxious to get home for the Christmas break that they might be tempted to have a heavy foot on the gas pedal. Here are some ideas that might help you to prepare them to have a safe car trip home for Christmas.

Prepaid Car Service - No matter how responsible your kids are, they may neglect having the car checked before they head home. Between the fact that they are anxious to get started and the fact that they may be short of cash, having the car serviced may not be high on your kid's priority list. You'll be helping them a great deal by setting that service up yourself. Call a reputable car service provider and explain what you want and just prepay for the service with your credit card or debit card. Knowing that you have already paid for the car to be checked will certainly prompt your kids to take care of that important matter before they leave for home.

A Care Package Pickup - Call the manager of a grocery store near your kid's college and explain that you want to place an order that will be picked up later by your college students. Include things like individual bottles of water, granola bars, apples and boxed fruit drinks that will come in handy as they drive. If they're driving until late in the evening, it may be helpful to provide energy drinks or similar energy boosters. By placing a phone order, you can easily pay with a credit or debit card and your kids won't have to fork over any money.

Towing Company -  Another really smart thing to do is to provide your child with the numbers of several towing services between their college town and your place of residence. The great thing about towing companies is that they are open twenty-four hours a day every single day of the year. Should a problem arise,  your child will easily be able to get help, and you'll have the peace of mind that somebody reliable and honest will be assisting your children in the event of any kind of car trouble.
